Is ClassPass worth it for your studio?

ClassPass is worth it for studios with uneven demand, where peak classes fill and off-peak spots sit empty. It’s a poor fit for 1:1 personal training or for studios already at capacity, because ClassPass payouts are usually lower than your own prices.

How ClassPass works

Members pay ClassPass a monthly fee for credits, then spend those credits on classes and appointments at partner studios. ClassPass serves both individual subscribers and companies that offer it as an employee benefit. It’s available in all 50 states.

Signup is free, with no upfront cost, and takes a few minutes at classpass.com/partners. You choose which spots and appointments to list, and it syncs with most booking systems.

How studios get paid

ClassPass pays per qualifying booking under your partner terms. ClassPass itself says payouts are typically lower than direct pricing.

Prices for open spots are set by ClassPass’s SmartSpot and SmartRate tools, based on demand. According to ClassPass, classes more than 80% full with direct members earned 45% higher ClassPass payouts on average. Strong direct demand helps your ClassPass rate.

Who it helps

  • Class-based studios with full peak classes and empty midday or weekend slots.
  • New studios that need people to discover them. ClassPass reports that 94% of its users are new to the businesses they visit.

Who should skip it

  • Personal training studios. ClassPass is built for group classes and appointments, not ongoing coaching.
  • Studios already at capacity. Every ClassPass spot is one you could sell at full price.

The risks

  • The relationship belongs to ClassPass first. Members book in the ClassPass app, not yours.
  • Terms change. ClassPass has changed payout terms over the years, and studios that depend on it have little leverage.
  • Variety-seekers. Many users try a lot of studios and may not convert.

How to set it up safely

  1. Cap how many ClassPass spots appear in each class.
  2. Block your peak times entirely.
  3. Have a clear offer to turn ClassPass visitors into direct members.
  4. Know your exit. You can leave with 90 days’ notice, and change your availability anytime.
