Mostly no. Insurance and corporate wellness networks usually pay for basic gym access and group classes, not 1:1 personal training, so for a training business they are mainly a way to meet future paying clients.
The money that pays full price for sessions is somewhere else.
Why networks don’t cover training
Network members get the equivalent of a basic membership: open gym and, sometimes, group classes. Training sessions are a paid extra. A personal training studio with no open gym may not qualify for some networks at all.
Where trainers get paid full price
1. Employee wellness allowances
Many employers give staff a yearly wellness allowance, and personal training is commonly an eligible expense. The client pays you your normal rate and gets reimbursed by their employer. This is usually the best fit for a training business. See how to get paid by wellness allowances.
2. Direct employer deals
Offer a discounted intro training package to a local employer’s staff. You set the price and keep the client relationship.
3. Wellhub
Trainers can join Wellhub through Trainiac, and gyms can limit which services Wellhub members get, such as an intro session or a small-group class. See how Wellhub pays gyms.
4. Other networks, only with group offerings
If you run small-group strength or open gym, a Medicare or Medicaid fitness program can bring in people who may later buy training. Sell upgrades gently.
Questions to ask yourself first
- Do you offer anything besides 1:1, like open gym, small group, or semi-private sessions?
- When are your trainers’ unbooked hours?
- Do your clients work for large employers that offer wellness benefits?
- Would a network visitor realistically become a paying training client?
Personal training is not physical therapy
If your business has a licensed physical therapist, insurance billing is a different process that involves credentialing and claims. That’s outside what PayerFit does.
The short answer
Start with wellness allowances and local employers, where you get paid full price for training. Add Wellhub as a way to meet new clients. Only join Medicare or other gym networks if you have group classes that can feed your training business.
